Course Descriptions: Associate of Arts in History
The Associate of Arts in History is designed for high school students to earn college credits through dual enrollment. Students must complete 66 credit hours with a "C" or better. 30 of these hours are within the History program, and 36 hours are general education requirements.
Required History Courses (18 Credit Hours)
A survey of American History from colonial origins through Reconstruction. Emphasis on foundational events such as the Revolutionary War, the Constitution, and post-Civil War challenges.

Covers late 19th century to 20th century American history, including industrialization, reform movements, and the rise of the U.S. as a global power.

The Bachelor of Arts in History degree consists of 36 credit hours in history and prepares students for graduate study, public service, education, law, and a variety of careers in research and public history. Course Descriptions: Bachelor of Arts in History Education
The B.A. in History Education is designed to prepare students for careers in secondary education. The program combines rigorous training in history with a full sequence of education courses and a student teaching practicum. Students gain both subject expertise and pedagogical skills aligned with state licensure requirements.
Required Education Courses (24 Credit Hours)
Introduces students to various exceptionalities and educational needs. Emphasis on special education law, assessment, and classroom accommodations. Includes a required practicum.

Examines strategies and theories for managing student behavior in diverse classroom settings. Includes the development of a behavior management project. Practicum required.

Course Descriptions: African American Studies Emphasis
The African American Studies emphasis analyzes and explains the contributions of African-descended peoples to American and world cultures from antiquity to the present. It emphasizes African civilizations, the global African Diaspora, and the ongoing social, cultural, and political challenges faced by African Americans in contemporary society.

A survey of African civilizations, including pre-colonial empires, the impact of European colonization, and the emergence of modern African nations.
