The Chaplain

Tougaloo ChapelThe College Chaplain provides leadership in developing and implementing religious life programs and services that speak to the holistic development of students, and the religious care and nature of the college community.

These programs and services seek to challenge, encourage and assist students in understanding the importance and cultivation of spiritual values and how their spiritual grounding sustains them throughout life.

Counseling services are also available for those that seek religious, emotional, personal, premarital and marital, crisis intervention, grief, and separation counseling.

Woodworth Chapel serves as the center of worship for the College Community. The church congregation, Union United Church of Christ, can trace its roots back to the late 1800’s.

Religious Life Activities

  • Weekly community worship services are held every Sunday morning beginning at 9:30 a.m. These services are dedicated to the belief of the importance of an individual’s relationship to his/her Creator and neighbor. Worship services are led by the College Chaplain and are held in historic Woodworth Chapel.
  • During the fall and spring semesters, a series of forums or topics of discussion are held in the residence halls that focus on value clarification.
  • Religious Emphasis Week is held in the spring of each year. A guest Theologian is invited to discuss issues that grow out of the week’s theme with students, faculty, and members of the community at-large.
  • Special seasonal programs/convocations are conducted to remind the College community of the religious/spiritual significance of these events in the life of a worshipping community.
  • Outreach Programs provide opportunities for invited guest ministers and members of local congregations to participate in the religious nurture of the College community.
  • Religious referrals are available.
