Tougaloo College mourns the loss of yet another Black man in America whose life was cut short by those our communities depend on “to protect and to serve.”
Because Tyre Nichols could have been one of the many students Tougaloo College serves, we stand with his family as they seek justice for his murder. We are at a critical time when police reform is urgently needed to curb a culture that is becoming all too commonplace in our communities. Systems and policies must change so that people are held accountable and justice can prevail.
As an institution of higher learning, Tougaloo College prepares our students to be thoughtful change agents who understand their responsibility in transforming the world into a better place than they found it. So today, the Tougaloo College community speaks the name Tyre Nichols and extends our thoughts and prayers to his family.
