COVID-19 Updates

Return to OHWC main page

At Tougaloo College, our campus community's health, well-being, and safety are of the highest priority. Our primary goal is to ensure that employees reporting for work and students returning to classes will do so in a healthy and safe environment while remaining productive during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Students and employees of Tougaloo College are no longer required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If you have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, Boosters are highly encouraged. In general, people are considered fully vaccinated:

  • Two weeks after their second dose in a 2-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or
  • Two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson & Johnson's Janssen vaccine

If you don't meet these requirements, regardless of your age, you are NOT fully vaccinated. Keep taking all precautions against COVID-19 until you are fully vaccinated.

In consideration for employees and students, we will continue to implement campus-wide safety measures in adherence to pertinent U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and MS State Department of Health (MSDH) guidance, as required by the State of Mississippi.

Our knowledge and understanding of COVID-19 are evolving. As such, the College will update the campus-wide safety guidance as more informed public health information and data become available to effectively and efficiently reduce/prevent virus transmission among employees and students and maintain healthy business operations and working and learning environment. The outlined safety measures are intended to guide departments/divisions, employees and students with the understanding that any significant, adverse change in COVID-19 transmission and mortality rate within the state may result in a substantial and abrupt shift in College guidance and requirements.

COVID-19: Where Can I Get Tested?

You may choose to get tested by your private health provider, various health care agenices (where advertised), the Tougaloo College Campus Clinic (Central MS Health Services), or a MS State Department of Health (MSDH) county health department. Call 601-957-6776 to schedule a drive-thru appointment at the Campus Clinic. Remember to ask about no-cost or reduced-cost testing resources, if you are uninsured, and whether testing is covered by any health insurance you may have. Testing is not free through this option.

Testing for college and university students and employees is free at the MSDH county health departments throughout the state. Please, access the Scheduled Locations for Free Drive-through COVID-19 Testing and testing protocol on the MSDH website or copy and paste this link https://msdh.ms.gov/msdhsite/_static/14,22406,420,874.html in the address bar of your web browser.
