The 2018 Influencers at the 2018 Two Rivers Gala | Tougaloo Honors

Distinction
The distinguished alumni lauded as the Tougaloo College Influencers have earned this distinction. This honor is reserved for alumni who have reached professional pinnacles of success in their chosen fields of endeavor and in their service to the College and society. They have pursued careers in every imaginable field…medicine, science, math, technology, engineering, law, politics, education, media, business (corporate and private), visual and performing arts, public service, civil and human rights.

Representing the very best of the Tougaloo legacy of excellence and service, they are game changers, difference makers, truth seekers, liberators and many first among firsts. They have chartered their own pathways and narratives of infl uence, impact and transformation. Their professional and personal contributions, achievements and milestones are a living testament to the transformative power of a Tougaloo education. Each of these accomplished alumni, whose names are recorded in history…individually and collectively, is the personification of the tenets and values
of the College’s excellence and service. They have helped to transform lives, and in doing so, they have brought honor and recognition to their alma mater, to their communities, families and friends.

Purpose
In 2019, Tougaloo College will celebrate its Sesquicentennial anniversary by commemorating and celebrating its rich history and legacy…its many milestones, accomplishments and contributions. The College’s greatness has been inextricably shaped and defined by the people who have walked the hallowed grounds. A celebration of the inaugural group of Infl uencers serves as the precursor to the College’s Sesquicentennial celebration.

Influencer medallion of honor
The medallion of honor was commissioned by Professor Bruce O’Hara. The medallion bears a rendering of Professor O’Hara’s art piece, an obelisk, which graphically depicts the college’s history. It is surrounded with rays of light and an inscription that reads “Tougaloo College, A Beacon of Light”.
