The successful candidate will demonstrate successful experience teaching choral music in a college setting and ability to recruit and retain students. In addition to teaching assigned classes, duties will include conducting examinations, evaluating student’s work, academic advising, keeping accurate records of student’s performances, attending departmental and campus-wide meetings, participating in campus activities and committees, and directing the Tougaloo College Concert Choir.
Primary teaching responsibilities include teaching related courses in the candidate’s area(s) of expertise and serving as Director of the Concert Choir and Choral Activities. The successful candidate will develop and maintain a regional and national profile within the profession, and actively pursue a performance agenda. The selected candidate will participate in departmental recitals, recruiting, fundraising, and service activities as assigned.
A Ph.D., or DMA in Music is preferred. A master’s degree in Music or Music Education or a related field will be considered. Teaching experience in choral music at the high school, community college, or college level is expected.
