Upward Bound Program
June 3rd - July 12th, 2018

The Upward Bound Programs will conduct a (6) six-week residential program from June 3rd through July 12th, 2018. During this phase, students live on the campus of Tougaloo College and activities include academic classes, special interest classes, cultural enrichment activities, recreational activities, counseling and tutoring. Participants must have an academic need, fall within the economic or first generation guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Education and meet other specific program requirements. The Upward Bound I Program provides services to participants from the following high schools: Canton, Lanier, Jim Hill, Murrah, Forest Hill, Callaway, Wingfield, Provine, and Holmes County Central High Schools. The Upward Bound II Program provides services to O’Bannon, Yazoo City, South Delta and Simmons High Schools.

Upward Bound Math & Science Program
June 3rd - July 12th, 2018

The Upward Bound Math & Science Program will conduct a six- week (6) summer residential program from June 3rd through July 12th, 2018. The program is a federally funded pre-collegiate enrichment program designed to generate skills and motivation in the math and science areas for success in education beyond high school. The summer program concentrates on high school students who have an academic need, fall either within the economic or first generation guidelines set forth by the U.S. Department of Education, have a desire to attend a post-secondary institution and would like to major in a math and/or science related discipline. Students are selected from the following target high schools and must meet the eligibility requirements: Wingfield, Callaway, Canton, Lanier, O’Bannon, Provine, Simmons, South Delta, and Yazoo City High Schools. Students who are accepted into the summer program will participate in a research component where they will gain exposure to the research process and its techniques. Also, they will be enrolled in math, science, English, foreign language, and computer classes.

Educational Talent Search Program
June 3rd - July 6th, 2018

The Educational Talent Search Program will conduct a five-week summer mentoring camp for middle school students (grades 6th, 7th and 8th) from Blackburn, Hardy, Northwest and Nichols Middle Schools. The camp is designed to improve students’ academic performance and desires to pursue a postsecondary degree through the use of mentorship components fulfilled through the student’s interactions with mentors and Educational Talent Search staff. Participants will engage in math, science and language during morning sessions.  Participants will journal daily on a reflective topic (s) to engage students in self-reflection and meaningful discussion about personal and academic goals.  During the afternoon session, students will be mentored by Tougaloo College students and Upward Bound Summer Bridge students.  Participants will be provided an opportunity to participate in social connectedness activities to foster relationships such as college tours, visits to museums, skating, bowling, theme parks, and movies.
