Passing Of Long-time Professor Atef Al-dabbour

Say not in grief: “He is no more,” but live in thankfulness that he was.
Hebrew Proverb
It is with great sorrow that Tougaloo College announces the passing of Professor Atef Al-Dabbour. This gentle “giant’s” unexpected death deeply saddens the Tougaloo College family that he is no longer physically among us. Professor Al-Dabbour's indelible mark at Tougaloo College is truly unrivaled. He was an accomplished scholar, a valued faculty member in the Department of Economics, and an Associate Professor of Economics and Business Administration, where he served as chair with distinction for 31 years. A consummate educator, his professional career is equally outstanding; teaching, instructing, touching, and transforming students' lives for 39 years. His unfaltering commitment to students taught them to recognize and embrace their potential. He taught by promoting excellence, individual performance, and personal improvement with nurturing words, kind encouragement, and positive reinforcement. He demanded students become models of excellence and consistency so they would be exceptionally well-prepared to take on life’s challenges with poise and confidence. We appreciate and value everything Professor Atef Al-Dabbour achieved. Tougaloo College will never forget his remarkable and extraordinary service. His memory and spirit will remain in our hearts forever. The College will recess at noon Friday, January 29, 2021, to honor Professor Atef Al-Dabbour’s legacy and resume Monday, February 1, 2021.
Funeral arrangements for Professor Al-Dabbour are incomplete.
The College will provide another update once plans are final.
Please keep his wife, Mrs. Deborah Al-Dabbour, and the family in your prayers.
