Tougaloo College – University of Mississippi School of Law Pathway to Law School and Beyond Initiative

The Pathway to Law School and Beyond Initiative is the framework within which Tougaloo College and the University of Mississippi School of Law will develop strategies and projects to create a pathway to increase the enrollment of Tougaloo graduates at the UM School of Law.

This Initiative pays tribute to the courage and accomplishments of two Tougaloo graduates, Reuben V. Anderson and Constance Slaughter-Harvey, as the first male and female African-American graduates of the UM School of Law.

This Initiative is predicated on a shared commitment to education as it pertains to recruitment, enrollment, retention, financial aid, the parameters of critical inquiry, and indeed to the very priorities, purpose, and impact of a legal education at the UM School of Law.

This Initiative will be comprised of several components, including:  (1) the University of Mississippi School of Law – Jackson Office at Tougaloo College; (2) the Annual Tougaloo College Law Preview Day at the UM School of Law; (3) the Tougaloo College Certificate Program in Legal Research and Writing; (4) the Accelerated Law Degree Program (“3+3”); (5) the Tougaloo College – University of Mississippi School of Law Annual Briefcase Lecture Series; (6) the Tougaloo College – University of Mississippi School of Law Annual “Lawyer As…….Workshop;” and (7) the Reuben V. Anderson/Constance Slaughter-Harvey Scholarship Program.
