Postion Summary

Tougaloo College—a private, co-educational institution in Jackson, Mississippi, offering an array of undergraduate programs and graduate programs in teaching and child development—invites qualified persons to apply for the full-time faculty position of Assistant Professor of Social Work. Applicants who hold social work licensure and maintain interests in health/mental health, child and family, criminal justice, geriatrics, and/or advocacy are particularly encouraged to apply.  Applicants with an earned doctorate in Social Work (or pending completion) may qualify for tenure-track rank and status. The appointment takes effect as early as August 1, 2025, and reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Sociology and Social Work.

Duties

The primary responsibility of faculty members is teaching four undergraduate courses per semester, student advising, supervising students’ Senior Papers, research, scholarship and/or creative activity, and serving the College through committee participation. Social Work is a new degree program. The successful candidate will assist the department chair in preparing the Social Work program for CSWE accreditation.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates must hold an MSW from a CSWE accredited institution. Preference will be given to candidates with an LCSW or LMSW, with practice experience. Also, candidates with a PhD (required for tenure track status) or ABD in Social Work are preferred. Teaching experience at a community college, four-year college, or university preferred. The successful candidate will work collaboratively and collegially with faculty and community stakeholders and possess excellent interpersonal communication, grant writing skills, and a strong commitment to social justice and inclusion.
