The story of Tougaloo College and its beginnings
"Tougaloo's history embodies this spirit of courage, struggle and rebellion. It represents a series of interruptions and resistances to racial oppression, inequality and injustice and victories over seemingly impossible odds. The first of which was the Herculian task of transforming a former cotton plantation into a school. And the spirit of the Amistad Africans kept marching on."
-Excerpt from Dr. Jarvis C. McInnis' speech
Tougaloo College kicked off its year-long Sesquicentennial Anniversary Celebration with a press conference, which ended like no other, on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at the Robert O. Wilder Building, known as The Mansion.
