Originally built as Judson Cross Hall in 1947, this building was conceived by the late President Judson L. Cross, who was instrumental in securing the funds for its construction. After a comprehensive renovation in 2001, the building was re-dedicated in May 2003 as The Edward O. Blackmon Building in recognition of Edward O. Blackmon's generous philanthropic support to the college.

Today, this colonial-designed structure houses the Office of the President, Provost, Registrar, and Financial Aid—the vital administrative offices that serve as the backbone of academic operations and student services at Tougaloo College.

From President Cross’s Vision to Today’s Administrative Hub

Conceived under President Judson L. Cross, the College’s central administrative hall was built to bring core services together for students and faculty—and it has continued to evolve to meet Tougaloo’s needs.

Established in 1947 as Judson Cross Hall, the building served for decades as a reliable home for student records, academic leadership, and day-to-day operations. A comprehensive update in the early 2000s modernized infrastructure while preserving the building’s classic character, and the facility was re-dedicated in recognition of transformational support.

Today, it remains the College’s administrative backbone—supporting academic progress, enrollment, and student success from entry to graduation.
