The mission of Student Retention Services is to ensure the successful matriculation and graduation of all students enrolled at Tougaloo College.

Academic Standing Guide

A primary purpose of the Office of Student Retention is to serve our At-Risk student population. We define "at-risk" by the following characteristics:

Who We Consider "At-Risk"

Students with a 70% average or less in any undergraduate course
Students with a grade point average of 2.3 or less
Students previously dismissed or who have failed Satisfactory Academic Progress

Good Standing

GPA ≥ 2.0 SAP Met

GPA 2.0 & above and Satisfactory Academic Progress is met

Stay on track.

Academic Warning

GPA < 2.0 (first time)

Your term or cumulative GPA fell below 2.0 for the first time.

Meet with a Retention Coach and create an Academic Success Plan.

Academic Probation

No improvement after Warning

No Improvement after warning or successful appeal of suspension.

Follow your mandatory Academic Success Plan closely.

Academic Suspension

Standards not met

Still not meeting standards or appeal denied.

Cannot register unless an appeal is approved by the Academic Standing committee

Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society

Alpha Rho Chapter · Chartered at Tougaloo College in 1954

The purpose of the society is to promote high scholarship, to encourage sincere endeavor in all fields of knowledge and service, to cultivate a high order of personal living and to develop an appreciation for scholarly work and a scholarly endeavor in others.
