Tougaloo, Miss., February 9, 2021 - Tougaloo College has been awarded a $40,000 grant through the Grow with Google (GwG) Historically Black Colleges and Universities Readiness Program to provide students with resources needed for career readiness and development. Google, in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF), will distribute more than $1 million to HBCU career service centers nationwide. The newly-established program is part of Google’s commitment to supporting Black jobseekers. GwG partners with HBCU career services centers across the United States to help Black college students develop the digital skills they need to find and secure internships and jobs that will help them build successful careers. “A central part of the mission of TMCF is to prepare the next generation of workforce talent.
Our partnership with Google enables this mission and ensures students from Historically Black Colleges and Universities are positioned to compete for meaningful careers”, said Dr. Harry L. Williams, president and chief executive officer of Thurgood Marshall College Fund. Tougaloo joins nineteen other HBCUs in the inaugural program. As a GwG HBCU, the college will have access to digital, career-focused resources to prepare students for job searching and supporting resources for staff at career centers. GwG program bene$its include professional development training, online classes, workshops, peer and mentor networking, and follow-up career counseling. “We are excited to be selected by Google, in partnership with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, to participate in the Grow with Google (GwG) HBCU Career-Readiness Program.
