The Mission for the Center for Professional Learning Communities @Tougaloo College is to support reflective, connective and integrative learning among professionals and practitioners through connecting educators.

Vision

The Center for Professional Learning Communities @Tougaloo College envisions educators building on the strength of each other to expand their capacity to provide all children an excellent education. Only through continual meaningful engagement will educators have the opportunity to reform and restructure schools that benefit ALL children.

Reflective, Connective, and Integrative Learning Purpose

Purpose

The Center for Professional Learning Communities @Tougaloo College is connecting educators to their most valuable resources – each other.  It is designed to bring together groups of educators who are interested in focusing on a particular teaching or learning issue. It is driven by true collaboration with outcomes of enhancing teacher’s body of knowledge; building their repertoire of best research based practices and strategies as well as advancing student’s learning.

The Center for Professional Learning Communities @Tougaloo College is an entity of the Division of Education, Supervision and Instruction. The Center continues the rich legacy of Tougaloo College teacher training program while moving the Division of Education, Supervision and Instruction towards the 21st century in truth, freedom and transformation in Education all while the Division Reclaim, Retain and Represent teachers in the field of education.

Teachers Helping Teachers

Teachers Helping Teachers

This learning community uses licensed teachers working in public school districts as Academic Coaches to help teachers with temporary educator licenses study for examinations required for permanent teacher licensure with the Mississippi Department of Education.

Team Up for Success

Team Up for Success

This learning community allows teachers in high-risk, low-resourced schools to share best research-based practices and strategies they know work well in a classroom setting.

Educational Seminars

Educational Seminars

This learning community expands the knowledge base of learners and practitioners as they hear experts in the field of education communicate valuable experiences learned through research and field practices.

Destination Education

Destination Education

This learning community is designed to identify high school students early who desire to major in education at Tougaloo College.  The program focuses on grades 9-12 and will mentor students throughout high school.

Summer Education Bridge Program

Summer Education Bridge ProgramThis learning community is designed to have incoming Tougaloo College freshman and transfer students who are majoring in education to participate in a four-week training session covering examination requirements to enter state approved teacher preparatory programs that will quality for Mississippi Educator License.

HBCU Roundtable

This learning community gives voice to Mississippi Historically Black Colleges and Universities’ pre-service teachers by providing a platform for them to collectively share their view about today’s educational issues.
