Welcome to Holmes Hall

Holmes Hall is the College's primary academic building. Originally constructed to provide classrooms and to house the Ellen Upson Woodworth Library, it continues to serve Tougaloo students with modern classrooms and academic spaces.

Holmes Hall is named for Rev. William Trumbull Holmes (President, 1913–1933) and is part of the Tougaloo College Historic District listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

A partnership with Jackson Public Schools that allows motivated students to earn college credit while completing high school requirements.

A Brief History & Legacy

Built in 1926, Holmes Hall originally contained classrooms and the Ellen Upson Woodworth Library at its center. Over time it has remained a core academic hub—today serving as the main academic building with classrooms, offices, and an auditorium.
