Welcome to the Alumni House

The Alumni House, erected in 1927, stands as one of Tougaloo College's most charming and historically significant buildings. This approximately 3,000 square foot structure currently serves as the headquarters for Alumni Affairs, connecting past and present members of the Tougaloo family.

Once called the “Dean’s Cottage,” this restored residence stands as a rare remnant of of the old campus. It now houses alumni offices that connect our heritage with the community we continue to serve.

For nearly a century, the Alumni House has been a place of welcome and belonging, first as a home for college leadership, and now as a gathering place for our extended Tougaloo family.

From Dean's Cottage to Alumni Home

Erected in 1927 during an era of campus expansion, this charming structure was originally designed as "The Dean's Cottage"—part of a thoughtful system of housing that helped attract and retain distinguished educators. For over four decades, it provided a welcoming home for college deans and their families, serving as a center of campus hospitality and leadership.

As one of the few surviving examples of housing from that period, the Alumni House represents an important chapter in Tougaloo's residential history. The building's architectural details and intimate scale reflect the personal touch that characterized campus life during this formative period.

Today, transformed into the headquarters for Alumni Affairs, this historic cottage continues its tradition of hospitality and connection. It serves as the perfect setting for maintaining the bonds that unite Tougaloo graduatesacross generations and geography, ensuring that once a part of the Tougaloo family, always a part of the Tougaloo family.
