The George and Pearl Vincent Innovation in Education Annual Named Scholarship is available to help education majors gain the academic credentials they need to start working as teachers in critical needs public schools in the state of Mississippi. Awarded to a full-time student enrolled in a degree program at Tougaloo College with a career goal to teach.
The recipient shall hold the scholarship for two consecutive semesters. To receive the scholarship for the second semester, the recipient must meet the GPA requirement.
The annual award of the George and Pearl Vincent Innovation in Education Annual Named Scholarship is $2,000 for five (5) recipients. The award is only disbursed during the fall and spring semesters. Funds from this scholarship may be used to pay tuition, fees, and room and board, or commuter allowance for those students teaching.
Individuals who are selected for the George and Pearl Vincent Innovation in Education Annual Named Scholarship must meet the following criteria:
- Minimum 3.00 GPA
- Upper classmen: Junior and Senior and not have completed their student teaching
- Successful passing scores on the Praxis II- Specialty content area test
- Applicant must demonstrate a financial need
- Letter attesting to his/her commitment to the teaching field
Selection Committee will consist of members of the Financial Aid Commission.
