The Office of Continuing and Distance Education (CDE) supports the college’s strategic initiative of advancing academic excellence. The primary role of the CDE is to assist the college in its effort to provide a liberal arts education that enhances critical thinking and analytical reasoning, reflects a global society, and embraces technological advances as it broadens its offerings to address the emerging needs of twenty-first century learners. The Office is committed to employing strategies to enhance teaching, research and service; implementing innovative methods and modes of teaching and learning to improve student learning outcomes; offering current, vibrant and relevant curricula that will prepare students for graduate and professional school; enhancing partnerships, networks and consortia to optimize opportunities for innovation, learning, personal and professional growth and service; and integrating revolutionary technology to support the College’s living and learning environment.
In collaboration with the Academic Divisions, the mission of the CDE is to meet the unique educational and professional development needs of traditional students, working professionals and adult learners. The Office is responsible for Adult Degree Programs, Summer School, Distance Education, Continuing Education Units (CEU), Certificate Programs, and Non-Credit courses.
Our primary goals are to:
- In collaboration with the Academic Divisions, promote and provide lifelong learning opportunities through degree and non-degree programs;
- Provide flexibility in course scheduling to accommodate the busy lifestyles of working adults through distance education, evening, and weekend courses;
- In collaboration with the Academic Divisions, advance the development, delivery, and promotion of distance education degree, certificate, and course offerings;
- Provide and encourage effective ways for internal and external businesses/entrepreneurs to enhance the educational development of employees.
