National Transportation Security Center of Excellence
Tougaloo College is a member of the National Transportation Security Center of
Excellence
(TC-NTSCOE) along with six other institutions (University of Connecticut,
University of Arkansas, San Jose University, Long Island University, Rutgers University,
and Texas Southern University). At Tougaloo College, the Department of Homeland
Security NTSCOE is designed to have the capacity and flexibility to address a wide range
of educational and training needs for the Department of Homeland Security’s customers.
Some significant changes are ongoing at TC-NTSCOE. An internship program has been developed that will utilize student input in the planning of the Center’s campus activities. A Homeland Security Association is in the works in an effort to educate young leaders interested in national efforts related to security to include surface transportation. In addition, planning is ongoing for the development of a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Homeland Security that will be offered both traditionally and on-line, making the program accessible to students from around the world.
Other goals and objectives include the development of an internship program to aid in the strategic planning process. The program is geared towards utilizing student input in an effort to enrich the NTSCOE by adding their perspective in the decision-making process. The definitive plan here is to develop a Bachelor's degree in Homeland Security. In addition, the goal is to offer the degree traditionally and on-line, therefore, making the program accessible to students from around the world.
