Congratulations to the Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs, and Coach Lafayette Stribling

On Wednesday, March 2, 2011, the Tougaloo College Men's and Women's Basketball teams traveled to Jacksonville, FL for the 2011 Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament hosted by Edward Waters College. On Wednesday night, the teams attended a banquet, during which the conference would announce the All-Conference teams. For the Lady Bulldogs, Erica Grayson and Victoria Jones were selected to the Women's All-Conference Team and Portia Craft received GCAC Co-Freshman of the Year. For the Bulldogs, Mario Luckett and Marquise Mems were selected to the Men's All-Conference Team. Marquise Mems received GCAC Player of the Year and Newcomer of the Year, Kadon Day received GCAC Freshman of the Year, and Head Coach Lafayette Stribling received GCAC Coach of the Year.

On Thursday, the #3 seeded Lady Bulldogs would kick off the GCAC Tournament Quarterfinals against the #6 seed Fisk University. The Lady Bulldogs played at 12 noon. The Lady Bulldogs knocked off Fisk 84-59 to advance to the GCAC Semifinals against #2 seed Southern University of New Orleans. The Bulldogs would receive a bye because they were the #1 seed in the tournament.

On Friday, the Lady Bulldogs would take on the Lady Knights at 12 noon. This would be the game of the century, as it came down to the wire. With 9.2 seconds left in the game, the Lady Knights were up 67-65, and the Lady Bulldogs had possession of the ball. Erica Grayson would drive the ball inside for the basket and she would get fouled. With the score tied with 5 seconds remaining, Grayson hits the winning free throw to give the Lady Bulldogs the 68-67 edge over the Lady Knights to advance to the championship game against #1 seed Xavier University. Leading the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones with 27 points and 19 rebounds. Portia Craft tacked in 15 points and Grayson ended the day with 11 points and 11 rebounds. Later that evening, the Bulldogs would be in action against the homestanding #4 seed Tigers of Edward Waters College. This game would be a nail-biter as well, as the Tigers of Edward Waters would make a run to come back, but the Bulldogs would hold on and escape with the 69-67 win to advance to the championship game against #2 seed Xavier University. Leading the Bulldogs was freshman of the year Kadon Day with 20 points. Marquise Mems tacked in 13 points, Mario Luckett chipped in 12 points and Juan Gray added 10 points.

On Championship Saturday, it would be the Lady Bulldogs against the Gold Nuggets. This would be the first time in at least eight years that the Lady Bulldogs would play in the championship game. The Lady Bulldogs would try to defeat the Gold Nuggets, but the Gold Nuggets was just too strong for the Lady Bulldogs and the Gold Nuggets defeat the Lady Bulldogs 71-44 to win the GCAC Championship. The Lady Bulldogs would be the runner-ups. During the awards ceremony, head coach Yolanda Brown would go out to accept the runner-up trophy for the Lady Bulldogs. Victoria Jones would make the All-Tournament team. After the women's championship game, the Bulldogs and the Gold Rush would face off for the Men's GCAC Championship. The Bulldogs would jump off to the early lead and take a 39-32 halftime lead, but in the second half, the Gold Rush would make an 8-0 run to take the lead from the Bulldogs, but not for long. The game would continue to go back and forward and with seconds left in the game and the Gold Rush down 72-69, Michael Harvey of the Gold Rush would shoot the three pointer to take the game into overtime. In the extra period, it would be all Bulldogs, as they would secure the win, outscoring the Gold Rush 21-8 in the final period. Leading the Bulldogs was Kadon Day with 32 points. Marquise Mems tacked in 18 points, James Carter chipped in 14 points, and Donteeno Todd added 11 points. With the win, the Bulldogs advance to 27-4 and secure an automatic bid in the NAIA National Tournament in Kansas City, MO. GCAC Player of the Year Marquise Mems and GCAC Freshman of the Year Kadon Day were selected to the All-Tournament team. Day was also selected as the tournament's Most Valuable Player. The final poll and the seeding for the national tournament will be announced on March 9, 2011. Let's congratulate the Bulldogs, Lady Bulldogs and Coach Stribling on their success in the GCAC Conference and continue to support the Bulldogs in their efforts to bring home the NAIA Championship next week.

Tougaloo Gets Valentine's Day Win Over Spring Hill

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team hosted former GCAC opponent Spring Hill College here in the Dawg Pound for Valentine's Day. The #19 ranked Bulldogs defeated the Badgers with ease 70-47.

Coming off a 91-77 win over then ranked #10 Xavier University and moving up in the rankings to #19, the Bulldogs came out focused and ready to play. The Bulldogs would take an early lead over the Badgers, but the Badgers would fight back, but it would not be enough to hold the Bulldogs down and the Bulldogs would take a 33-24 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would go and finish off the Badgers, outscoring them 37-23 in the half and cruising to a 70-47 win. The Bulldogs shot 47.5% from the field, 35.3% from the three point line, and 60% from the charity stripe.

Leading the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 24 points. Juan Gray tacked in 15 points and Mario Luckett chipped in 12 points. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday as they play host to Talladega College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.

Tougaloo Defeats #10 Xavier for Homecoming 2011

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team hosted #10 ranked Xavier University here in the Dawg Pound for Homecoming 2011 Saturday night. The #21 ranked Bulldogs defeated the Gold Rush 91-77.

After losing to the Gold Rush in their first meeting at "The Barn" on January 22nd, the Bulldogs were determined to take home the win in the Dawg Pound for homecoming. The Bulldogs would start strong and take an early lead, but the Gold Rush would try to fight back. They Gold Rush would make it a game, but once again the Bulldogs would pull away and take a 44-33 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs and the Gold Rush would continue where they left off in the first half, as it would be a contest, until the Bulldogs would take off again and it would be the Dawgs who would win the battle and walk away with the win to improve to 20-4 on the season.

Leading the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 30 points. Kadon Day tacked in 17 points, Juan Gray chipped in 16 points, and James Carter added 10 points and 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Monday as they host former GCAC opponent Spring Hill College here in the Dawg Pound. Tip-off is set for 7:00 P.M.

Tougaloo Loses to Xavier in Homecoming Game

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs hosted #12 Xavier University for HOMECOMING 2011 here tonight in the Dawg Pound. The Gold Nuggets defeated the Lady Bulldogs 55-32.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped off to a good start, as they would be neck and neck with the Gold Nuggets, but the Gold Nuggets would soon run off from the Lady Bulldogs and take the lead. The Lady Bulldogs would continue to fight, but it would be the Gold Nuggets who would go to the locker room with a 30-18 halftime lead.

In the second half, it would be all Gold Nuggets, as they would outscore the Lady Bulldogs 25-14. The Lady Bulldogs shot a poor 25.5% from the field, 0.67% from the three point line, and 50% from the field. The Lady Bulldogs also had 31 turnovers compared to the Gold Nuggets 20 turnovers.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Grayson had 6 points and 7 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday as they play host to Talladega College. Game time is set for 5:30 P.M.

Turnovers the Cause for Lady Bulldogs' Loss to SUNO

New Orleans, LA - The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team traveled to New Orleans, LA to take on Southern University of New Orleans Saturday night in The Castle. The Lady Bulldogs were defeated by the Lady Knights 71-63 in a tough match-up.

The Lady Bulldogs knew it would be a tough match-up with the Lady Knights going into the game, but thought they could pull out the win. The Lady Knights went into last night's match-up with a 17-1 record, with their only coming at the hands of Xavier University. The Lady Bulldogs would struggle in the first half, and as a result, the Lady Knights would take a 39-25 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs would try to find some momentum, but the Lady Knights would not let the Lady Bulldogs run off. The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Knights 38-32 in the second half, but it would not be enough for the Lady Bulldogs to get the win and the Lady Knights would walk away with the victory and an 18-1 record.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones with 18 points and 14 rebounds. Portia Craft tacked in 17 points and Raven Ashley chipped in 10 points. Erica Grayson added 8 points and 14 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday as they host Concordia College Selma. Game time is set for 5:30 P.M.

Bulldogs Escape with a Win over SUNO

New Orleans, LA - The Tougaloo College Bulldogs traveled to New Orleans, LA to take on GCAC opponent Southern University of New Orleans Saturday night in The Castle. The Bulldogs defeated the Knights 67-65 to advance to 17-4 on the season.

Playing with only 7 players, the "Select 7" as they are known on campus, the Bulldogs are fighting to continue their winning streak. Each game the Bulldogs play, they know will be tough, and this game was no different. The Bulldogs would struggle early in the first quarter, as the Knights would take an early lead, but the Bulldogs would fight back, and at the end of the first half, the Bulldogs would take a 29-27 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs and the Knights would continue to make the game a dog fight. With two tenths of a second left to play and the Bulldogs up one, the Knights would get charged a technical foul for calling a time out that they did not have. Tougaloo's Mario Luckett would go to the line to shoot the free throws. Luckett would shoot one and miss one to give the Bulldogs the 67-65 victory over the Knights.

Leading the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 18 points. Luckett tacked in 16 points, Donteeno Todd chipped in 15 points, and Juan Gray added 11 points. James Carter had a game-high 15 rebounds for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday as they play host to Concordia College Selma. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M. in the "Dawg Pound".

Lady Bulldogs Gets GCAC Win Over Dillard

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team hosted GCAC foe Dillard University in the Dawg Pound tonight. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Bleu Devils 71-65.

Searching for a win, the Lady Bulldogs came out of the locker room amped up and ready to go against the Lady Bleu Devils. The Lady Bulldogs did not show no mercy against the Lady Bleu Devils at the start of the game, as they would jump out to an early lead over the Lady Bleu Devils. The Lady Bulldogs would let up midway through the half and the Lady Bleu Devils would take advantage and fight their way back into the game, as they Lady Bulldogs would only lead 34-30 going into halftime.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Bleu Devils would make it a "cat fight", but it would be the Lady Bulldogs that would prevail over the Lady Bleu Devils and walk off the floor with the victory. The win brings the Lady Bulldogs to 7-12 overall, 1-1 in conference play.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs was Portia Craft with 21 points. Victoria Jones tacked in 14 points, Erin Wells chipped in 13 points, and Erica Grayson added 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, February 5th as they travel to New Orleans, LA to take on Southern University-New Orleans. Game time is set for 5:00 P.M.

Bulldogs Ousts Dillard

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team hosted the Bleu Devils of Dillard University in the Dawg Pound tonight. The Bulldogs ousted GCAC foe Bleu Devils 89-67 to improve to 16-4 on the season.

After losing to #11 Xavier last week in their conference opener, the #22 Bulldogs was determined to get back on the winning track and grab first conference win. The Bulldogs would start off slow, but would soon pick up the paste as they would grab an early lead over the Bleu Devils. The Bleu Devils would try to fight back, however, it would be the Bulldogs that would take a 37-33 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would come back to finish off the Bleu Devils, as they would outscore them 52-34 in the half. The Bulldogs had poor shooting, but was able to get the job done and walk away with the victory over the Bleu Devils. The Bulldogs shot 41.7% from the field, 17.2% from behind the three point line, and 64.9% from the line.

Leading four Bulldogs with double doubles was Donteeno Todd with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Marquise Mems tacked in 19 points and 10 rebounds, Mario Luckett chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds, and James Carter added 17 points and a career-high 15 rebounds. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday, February 5th as they travel to New Orleans, LA to take on Southern University-New Orleans. Tip-off is set for 7:00 P.M.

Tougaloo Moves Up in Top 25 Poll

Tougaloo, MS - The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) recently announced the Men's Division I Coaches' Top 25 Poll for this week. The Tougaloo College Bulldogs landed in the poll for the second consecutive week.

Last week, the Bulldogs landed in the Top 25 Poll at #23 after their victory on December 31st to then #25 Freed Hardeman University. This week, the Bulldogs moved up to #21 after their 76-74 victory over Victory University and their 104-63 victory over Concordia College Selma. The Bulldogs currently have a record of 13-3. The Bulldogs have yet to start conference play, but open conference play with #12 Xavier University in New Orleans, LA.

Tougaloo's Luckett Grabs Player of the Week for Second Consecutive Time

Tougaloo, MS - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference (GCAC) recently announced the Players of the Week for the week ending January 16, 2011. Tougaloo's Mario Luckett grabbed the men's honor for the second consecutive time.

Luckett, the lone senior on the team, received the Player of the Week honor last week for his performances in the Bulldogs' wins over the University of Mobile and Spring Hill College. This week, Luckett receives the honor again for his performance in the Bulldogs' win over Concordia College Selma. After Luckett missed the Bulldogs' game against Victory University due to personal reasons, the 6'6 forward was determined to make up for the miss. In the win against Concordia, Luckett reached a career-high 36 points; shooting 13-16 from the field and 10-11 from the line. He also grabbed 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 5 steals and 4 blocks.

Because Luckett received the GCAC Player of the Week honor, he automatically represent the GCAC for National Player of the Week, which will be announced today, January 18th. Luckett and the Bulldogs will be back in action on tomorrow, January 19th, as they play host to Texas College. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.

Tougaloo Women Fall to Texas College

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team hosted the Lady Steers of Texas College here last night in the Dawg Pound. The Lady Bulldogs fell short to the Lady Steers 85-79.

Early in the game, the Lady Bulldogs would jump out front, playing very well against the Lady Steers. The Lady Bulldogs went up 10 points on the Lady Steers, getting the early lead, but the Lady Steers would fight back and at the half, the Lady Bulldogs would go to the locker room with a 42-38 lead.

In the second half, however, the Lady Steers would put pressure on the Lady Bulldogs, forcing them to turn the ball over and capitalize on them. As a result, the Lady Steers would gain the lead from the Lady Bulldogs late in the game. The Lady Bulldogs would try to fight back to regain the lead, but the Lady Steers would hold them off, walking away with the win.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs with 18 points was Victoria Jones. Portia Craft and Erin Wells both chipped in 15 points. Wells also tacked in 11 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to New Orleans, LA to take on #16 Xavier University in their first conference match-up. Game time is set for 5:00 P.M.

Tougaloo Handles Texas College 71-60

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team played host to the Steers of Texas College on last night in the Dawg Pound. The Bulldogs defeated the Steers 71-60 to advance to 14-3 on the season.

The Bulldogs would start off pretty smooth early in the first half, but the Steers would make it a game as they would not back down. The Bulldogs and the Steers would go back and forth, but the Bulldogs would eventually pull away from the Steers. The Bulldogs would go to the locker room with a 39-32 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs and the Steers would go at it again. The Steers would stay in the game, but the Bulldogs was just too much for the Steers. Bulldogs' Luckett would come alive in the second half, leading the Bulldogs offense in the half. Luckett would score all of his points in this half and the Bulldogs would cruise pass the Steers 71-60.

Leading for the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 15 points. Donteeno Todd tacked in 14 points, Mario Luckett chipped in 13 points, Kadon Day added 11 points and James Carter had 10 points. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Saturday as they travel to New Orleans, LA to take on #12 Xavier University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 P.M.

Tougaloo Rolls Past Spring Hill

Mobile, AL - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team traveled to Mobile, AL on Saturday evening to take on yet another former GCAC opponent, Spring Hill College. The Bulldogs would defeat the Badgers 75-59 to advance to 11-3 on the season.

With a 3-game winning streak, the Bulldogs was looking to make it four as they will be on the road for a while before going home. The Bulldogs would have an almost perfect start as they would take an early lead over the Badgers. Tougaloo's Marquise Mems would take over in the first half, scoring 18 of the Bulldogs' 42 points. The Badgers would put up a fight in the first, but the Bulldogs would go to the locker room with a 42-32 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would continue to pour it on the Badgers as they would go up as many as 22 points on the Badgers. The Badgers would try to fight their way back into the game, but the Bulldogs would be too much for the Badgers and the Bulldogs would walk away with the victory.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs with a game-high 28 points was Marquise Mems. Donteeno Todd added 10 points. James Carter tacked in a game-high 12 rebounds for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday as they travel to Memphis, TN to take on Victory University. Tip-off is set for 7:00 P.M.

Tougaloo Escapes Victory with 76-74 Win

Memphis, TN - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team traveled to Memphis, TN on Tuesday to take on Victory University. The Bulldogs would defeat the Eagles in what would be one of the Bulldogs' most intense games this season.

Playing without senior forward Mario Luckett, the Bulldogs looked to be okay early in the first half, but the Eagles would soon change that as they would take over the game and leave the Bulldogs in a bad situation. However, the Bulldogs would not give up, but it would be the Eagles that would go to the locker room with a 42-31 halftime lead. The Bulldogs shoot a poor 28.9% from the field and 20% from the three-point line, while the Eagles shoot 53.8% from the field and 43.8% from the three-point line.

However, in the second half, the Bulldogs would bring out the "dawg" in them as they would force the Eagles into turnovers and fight their way back into the game to make this a nail-biter. The Bulldogs would take the lead from the Eagles midway through the game, but the Eagles would not give up. With less than a minute to play, the Bulldogs would go up 74-68 on the Eagles. The Eagles would come down the floor and shoot a three-pointer to make it 74-71 with less than ten seconds left. The Eagles would foul, sending James Carter to the line for two. Carter would make both to secure the win, but yet the Eagles had not given up, as Myron Strong would shoot a "hail mary" and it would be good at the buzzer to make it 76-74 and the Bulldogs escaping with the victory.

Leading the Bulldogs with 21 points was Donteeno Todd. Marquise Mems tacked in 13 points, Juan Gray chipped in 12 points and Horace Whitehead added 11 points. James Cater lead all rebounders with 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs will be back in action on Thursday as they travel to Selma, AL to take on Concordia College-Selma. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.

Tougaloo Makes Boxtorow.com's Top 10 HBCU Division I NAIA Poll

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team was recently named to the Boxtorow.com Top 10 HBCU Division I NAIA Basketball Poll. The Bulldogs came in at #6 with a record of 11-3.

Tougaloo's Luckett Receives GCAC Player of the Week Honors

LuckettTougaloo, MS - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference recently announced the Players of the Week for the week ending January 9, 2011. Tougaloo College's Mario Luckett received the men's Player of the Week honors for his performance for the week.

Luckett, a 6'6 forward from Vicksburg, MS, receives the honor for the first time this season. The 2009-10 GCAC All-Conference player has been a tremendous post player for the Bulldogs this season. The lone senior and team captain, scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the Bulldogs' 66-49 victory over the University of Mobile. In the game against Spring Hill College, Luckett didn't score but 8 points and had 7 rebounds, but he had 5 assists to help the Bulldogs in the 75-59 win.

Because of Luckett winning the conference player of the week, he will automatically be nominated and represent the GCAC for the National Player of the Week, which will be announced on Tuesday, January 11, 2011.

Tougaloo Rolls Past Concordia College Selma 73-55

Selma, AL - The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team traveled to Selma, AL to take on the Lady Hornets of Concordia College Selma. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Hornets 73-55.

Looking for their first win of the new year, the Lady Bulldogs went into last night's game with a lot of intensity and determination, looking to roll past the Lady Hornets. The Lady Bulldogs would take an early 8-0 lead on the Lady Hornets before allowing them to score, but the Lady Bulldogs would not stop pouring it on the Lady Hornets and would at one point run off. The Lady Hornets would regroup and try to fight their way back, but the Lady Bulldogs would go to the locker room with a 31-26 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs would come out stronger and would seal the deal for the win, going up as many as 30 points on the Lady Hornets. The Lady Hornets would try to make a late comeback, but the Lady Bulldogs would be too much for the Lady Hornets and they would walk away with their first win of the year.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs was Portia Craft, who finished with 23 points. Victoria Jones tacked in 20 points and 15 rebounds and Erica Grayson added 10 points, 5 blocks, and a career-high 19 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on January 19th as they play host to Texas College. Game time is set for 5:30 P.M. in the Dawg Pound.

Luckett Has Career Night in Win Over Concordia

Selma, AL - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team traveled to Selma, AL to take on the Hornets of Concordia College Selma last night. The Bulldogs would run over the Hornets and blast them, winning the game 104-63 to advance to 13-3 on the season.

With only 7 players, Coach Stribling and his Bulldogs would go into the game looking to take care of business with the Hornets, and they would do just that. The Bulldogs would not waste any time, as they would start in on the Hornets early in the game. Luckett, the Bulldogs lone senior, would take over for the Bulldogs, scoring the first points of the game. Who knew that the night would turn into a career night for Luckett. The Bulldogs would have total control of the game and take a 47-30 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would continue to pour it on the Hornets. Luckett was unstoppable, scoring in the inside, outside, and from the line. The Hornets just didn't have an answer for him nor any of the other Bulldogs, as all 7 players would score. The Bulldogs would end the game busting the clock on the Hornets and taking a 104-63 win.

Luckett finished the night with a career-high 36 points, shooting 13-16 from the field and 10-11 from the line, 11 rebounds, 6 assists, 4 blocks, and 5 steals. Donteeno Todd tacked in 20 points and 6 assists, Juan Gray chipped in 13 points and 6 assists, and James Carter added 12 points and 13 rebounds. The Bulldogs will be back in action of January 19th as they host Texas College in the Dawg Pound. Tip-off is set for 7:30 P.M.

Luckett Leads Bulldogs Past Rams

LuckettMobile, AL - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team traveled to Mobile, AL to take on former GCAC opponents University of Mobile. The Bulldogs defeated the Rams 66-49 to move to 10-3 on the season.

Coming off a New Year's Eve win over #25 Freed Hardeman University, the Bulldogs were ready for what they thought would be a tough match-up with the Rams. The Bulldogs didn't waste anytime gaining the lead, as they jumped out to an early 10-7 lead. The Rams would try to fight their way back, but the Bulldogs proved to be too much for the Rams, as they would take a 31-15 halftime lead over the Rams. The first half belonged to Mario Luckett, as he led the Bulldogs, scoring 11 of his 18 points in the first half.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would continue to pour it on the Rams, as they would go up as many as 22 points. The Rams would try to fight their way back into the game once again, but the Bulldogs just was too much for the Rams and the Bulldogs would walk away with the 66-49 victory.

Tougaloo Drops 64-58 Decision to Mobile

Mobile, AL - The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team traveled to Mobile, AL to take on former GCAC opponents University of Mobile last night. The Lady Bulldogs put up a good fight, but the Lady Rams would walk away with a 64-58 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

Coming off a two week break, the Lady Bulldogs started the game really sluggish and slow. However, they would pick it up and come back in the game to go into halftime down 29-23 to the Lady Rams.

In the second half, it would be a fight between the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Rams, as they would both scored 35 in the half, leaving the decision to the first half 6 point lead and the win going to the Lady Rams.

Leading the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones, who finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Erica Grayson added 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action on January 13th as they travel to Selma, AL to take on Concordia College. Game time is set for 5:30 P.M.

Tougaloo's Mems Receives GCAC Player of the Week Honors For Third Time

MemsTougaloo, MS - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference recently announced the Players of the Week for the week ending January 2, 2011. Tougaloo College's Marquise Mems received the men's Player of the Week honors for his performance for the week.

Mems, a 6'5 junior guard/forward from Shelby, MS, receives the honor for the third time this season. In the 68-54 win over #25 Freed Hardeman University, Mems scored 23 points, shooting 7-9 from the field, 3-5 from three-point status, and 6-7 from the free throw line. Because of Mems winning the conference player of the week, he will automatically be nominated and represent the GCAC for the National Player of the Week, which will be announced on Tuesday, January 4, 2011. Lady Bulldogs Gets Revenge on Selma

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Lady Bulldog Basketball team hosted the Lady Bulldogs of Selma University in Round 2 of the "Battle of the Lady Bulldogs" here tonight at the Dawg Pound. The Lady Bulldogs would win the battle as they walked away with a 66-52 victory over Selma.

The Lady Bulldogs went into tonight's game seeking revenge on Selma, as Selma would take a 91-90 overtime victory over the Lady Bulldogs in their first meeting on November 20th. The Lady Bulldogs would have a little trouble getting into together early in the game, but midway through the half, they would regroup and find a rhythm, as they would go up by as many as 12 points over Selma. However, Selma would fight back to cut the lead 5 points, as the Lady Bulldogs would go to the locker room with a 32-27 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs would continue to pour it on Selma. Selma would fall apart in the second half and would lead to the head coach receiving a technical foul and Anekia McCluney fouling out of the game with 11 points. The Lady Bulldogs would prove to be too much for Selma and the Lady Bulldogs would take the victory.

Tougaloo Drops Tough One to Belhaven

Tougaloo, MS - In round 2 of the crosstown showdown between the Tougaloo College Bulldogs and Belhaven University Blazers, the Bulldogs would look to take a clean sweep, but the Blazers would not back down, and as a result, the Blazer would split the record 1-1 with a 66-58 win over the Bulldogs Saturday night at Dawg Pound.

In the Bulldogs/Blazers first meeting, the Bulldogs defeated the Blazers 74-58 over at Belhaven, but the Bulldogs struggled in last night game, giving the Blazers the win. The Bulldogs came out with allot of energy and excitement, as they looked to have it together on the court. The Bulldogs would take an early lead, but the Blazers would come back to take the lead, going into to halftime with a 38-28 lead over the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs shot a miserable 29.4% from the field, compared to the 51.9% shooting of the Blazers. The Bulldogs shot 1.7% from behind the arch and 43.8% from the line, compared to the Blazers shooting 55.6% from behind the arch and 71.4% from the line.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would fight back to regain the lead, but would struggle late in the game in terms of scoring and the Blazers would take advantage and regain the lead late in the game and would not look back as they would defeat the Bulldogs in the Dawg Pound, handing the Bulldogs their first loss in the Dawg Pound this season. The Bulldogs had pour shooting finishing with 28.6% from the field, 12.5% from behind the arch, and 45.8% from the line.

Leading the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 18 points. Mario Luckett added 17 points and 10 rebounds and James Carter led all rebounders with 11 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Tougaloo Drops Decision to Mississippi Valley State

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Women's Basketball played host to the Delta Devilettes of Mississippi Valley State University here Monday night at "The Dawg Pound". The Lady Bulldogs dropped a tough 72-64 decision to the Devilettes.

With senior guard Demara Bolton on the bench due to an injury, the Lady Bulldogs had to rely on the Freshman guard to lead the way. The Lady Bulldogs would have some trouble in the first half, as they committed a lot of simple turnovers. The Devilettes took advantage of the turnovers and took an early lead. The Lady Bulldogs would try to pull it together, but it would not be enough and the Devilettes would take a 34-19 halftime lead over the Lady Bulldogs.

But things would change in the second half. Bolton would come off the bench for the Lady Bulldogs and the last 18:00 of the game would belong to her. Bolton scored 18 points in 18:00 to lead all scorers in the game. The Lady Bulldogs would rally back, but it would not be enough to walk away with the win and the Devilettes would steal the 72-64 victory.

Lady Bulldogs Gets Revenge Over Belhaven

Jackson, MS - Going into Day 2 of the Coaches vs Cancer Classic at Belhaven University, the Tougaloo College Women's Basketball team would seek revenge over the Lady Blazers, who defeated them 65-57 at home on Tuesday night. The Lady Bulldogs would defeated the Lady Blazers in the rematch 73-63 to be the only team to win all games in the Classic.

With revenge on their minds, the Lady Bulldogs came went into Saturday's match-up with a lot of aggression and determination. The Lady Bulldogs would begin slow, but within 6:00 of the game, the Lady Bulldogs would pick up the pace and run away from the Lady Blazers, taking a 44-32 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Lady Blazers would try to fight back, but the Lady Bulldogs was determined to win the game, and they did everything possible to make sure they walked off the floor with the victory. The Lady Blazers made a little run towards the end, but the Lady Bulldogs was just too much for the Lady Blazers and the Lady Bulldogs would take the 73-63 victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones with 24 points and 12 rebounds. Demara Bolton added 17 points and Erica Grayson chipped in 13 points and 11 rebounds. Bulldogs Get Win Over Belhaven

Jackson, MS - Coming off their first loss of the season to William Carey on Friday afternoon, the Bulldogs would come go into Saturday's match-up strong and tough, looking to get back on the winning side. With good control of the ball and the Bulldogs playing well, they would take the 74-58 victory over the former GCAC opponent Belhaven.

The Bulldogs would start the game off real strong and aggressive, handling the ball really well and taking control of the game. Mario Luckett would take over offensively for the Bulldogs, as he would score the first points for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would take an early lead and eventually run off from the Blazers, taking a 40-23 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Blazers would try to fight their way back in the game, as the Bulldogs went up by as many as 26 points over the Blazers. The Blazers made a run, but it would not be enough to take down the Bulldogs and the Bulldogs would walk away with the win, moving to a 4-1 overall record.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Juan Gray with 17 points. Mario Luckett added 16 points, Marquise Mems chipped 15 points, and James Carter recorded 10 rebounds for the Bulldogs. Tougaloo Defeats Former GCAC Opponent William Carey

Jackson, MS - The Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs' Basketball team traveled across town to Belhaven University to play in the Coaches vs Cancer Classic on Friday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs escaped with a 68-66 victory over former GCAC opponent William Carey University.

Coming off a loss to Belhaven University on Tuesday night at home, the Lady Bulldogs was determined to go into the Classic strong and come away with the win. They started the game very tough and intense, as they would jump out ahead of the Lady Crusaders. The Lady Crusaders would try to make it a game, but the Lady Bulldogs would maintain the lead and go into halftime with a 37-32 lead.

In the second half, the Lady Crusaders would try to fight back, but the fight in the Lady Bulldogs would hold strong and as a result, the Lady Bulldogs would come out on top, defeated the Lady Crusaders 68-66 and moving their record to 2-3 overall.

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Demara Bolton with 25 points. Victoria Jones tacked in 16 points and 11 rebounds and Erica Grayson tacked in 15 points and 12 rebounds. Tougaloo Handed First Loss of the Season

Jackson, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team traveled across town to play in Belhaven University's Coaches vs Cancer Classic on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs was handed their first loss of the season by former GCAC opponent William Carey University by a score of 68-65.

The Bulldogs would have a slow start, finding themselves in a deficit with the Crusaders. The Bulldogs would try to find their rhythm, but it would not come and the Crusaders would take a 36-28 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would pick up the pace and rally back, but it would come down to the wire with the Crusaders. The Bulldogs outscored the Crusaders in the second half 37-32, but it would not be enough for the Bulldogs to remain undefeated and the Crusaders would deliver the Bulldogs their first loss of the season.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 16 points. Jejuan Jacks added 14 points and Mario Luckett chipped in 10 points and 12 rebounds. Tougaloo Grabs GCAC Player of the Week Honor for Second Consecutive Week

MemsTougaloo, MS - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference recently announced its Players of the Week for the week ending November 7, 2010. Tougaloo's Marquise Mems picked up the honor for the male Player of the Week.

Mems is the second Bulldog to received this honor for the 2010-2011 season. Last week, Jarrell Wilson received the honor for his performance in the Bulldogs 88-83 win over Division I Alcorn State University. This week, Mems received the honor for his outstanding performance in the Bulldogs 3-0 week. In the season opener 73-54 win against the University of Mobile, Mems only had 11 points and 8 rebounds. However, in Texas, Mems had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the Bulldogs 78-58 win over Texas College and 23 points and 6 rebounds in the Bulldogs 69-66 win over Wiley College.

Mems is in his first season as a Bulldogs as he comes to us from Coahoma Community College in Clarksdale, MS. Mems is a junior guard/forward from Shelby, MS. Below are Mems' stats for the week.

Tougaloo's Jones Wins GCAC Player of the Week Honors

JonesTougaloo, MS - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference recently announced its Players of the Week for the week ending November 7, 2010. Tougaloo's Victoria Jones picked up the honor for the female Player of the Week.

Jones had an impressive week for the opening week of the 2010-2011 season for the Lady Bulldogs. In their season opener against the University of Mobile, Jones had 15 points and 18 rebounds in the Lady Bulldogs' 68-60 loss to the Lady Rams. This past weekend in Texas, Jones managed to grab 30 points and 23 rebounds in the 82-80 loss to Texas College and 18 points and 13 rebounds in the 77-66 victory over the Lady Wildcats of Wiley College.

Jones is a powerhouse that any coach would want on their team. She is a junior forward from Saginaw, MI playing in her third year as a Lady Bulldog. Below are her stats for this week.

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs' Basketball team played host to the Lady Blazers of Belhaven University here at the Dawg Pound on last night. The Lady Bulldog dropped a 65-57 decision to the former GCAC opponents.

The Lady Bulldogs started off very strong and aggressive in the first 5:00 minutes of the game, taking a 12-2 lead over the Lady Blazers. The Lady Blazers would slow down the tempo and allow the Lady Blazers to come back and tie the game, and eventually take the lead. The Lady Bulldogs would try to regain the lead, but the Lady Blazers wouldn't allow it and the Lady Bulldogs found themselves in a 30-20 halftime deficit.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs would continue to fight back, and as a result, come back within 5 of the Lady Blazers. In the final minutes of the game, the Lady Bulldogs gave it all they had, but the Lady Blazers was just too much for the Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Blazers would take the victory.

Leading the way for the Lady Bulldogs was Victoria Jones with 15 points and 20 rebounds. Erica Grayson tacked in 14 points and 13 rebounds, and Demara Bolton chipped in 10 points. The Lady Bulldogs will try to seek revenge this weekend, as they travel crosstown to Belhaven University to participate in the Belhaven Classic. Tougaloo's Wilson Grabs Season's First GCAC Player of the Week

Tougaloo, MS - The Gulf Coast Athletic Conference recently announced the season's first Players of the Week for Men's and Women's Basketball. Tougaloo College's Jarrell Wilson grabbed the honor for the men for his impressive stats in an 88-83 victory over Division I Alcorn State University.

Wilson, a 6'4 junior forward from Jackson, MS played a great game against the Braves, scoring 22 points on 11-13 shooting and 9 rebounds. Wilson comes to Tougaloo College from Hinds Community College in Utica, MS. Wilson is a very strong athlete and he knows how to get it inside.

Lady Bulldogs Gets First Win of Season Against Wiley

Marshall, TX - After a disappointing 82-80 loss to Texas College on Friday night, the Lady Bulldogs would look to bounce back on Saturday when they traveled to Marshall, TX to take on Wiley College for their homecoming. The Lady Bulldogs would do just that as they defeated the Lady Wildcats 77-66.

With a nice crowd for homecoming, the Lady Wildcats would start the game with great enthusiasm and confidence, but the Lady Bulldogs would break through that confidence early in the game as they would give the Lady Wildcats a battle for the lead. The Lady Bulldogs would win the battle and take a 35-30 halftime lead going into the locker room.

In the second half, the Lady Wildcats would build back their momentum and eventually take the lead, but it would not be enough momentum to keep the Lady Bulldogs down. The Lady Bulldogs would regroup and play hard, resulting in the Lady Bulldogs regaining the lead with less than 5:00 to play. The Lady Wildcats would keep fighting, but the fight would not be enough and the Lady Bulldogs would take the 77-66 victory over the Lady Wildcats and grab their first win of the season.

Bulldogs Rally Back to Remain Undefeated in Season

Marshall, TX - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball traveled to Marshall, TX to take on Wiley College for their homecoming before a jam packed crowd in Alumni Gymnasium Saturday afternoon. The Bulldogs would defeat the Wildcats 69-66 for their homecoming and remain undefeated on the season.

The Wildcats came out very tough and aggressive, pushing the ball up the court and playing a very fast pace game, resulting in them taking an early lead over the Bulldogs. The Wildcats looked to be too much for the Bulldogs, as the Bulldogs struggled in the first half and would find themselves in a 38-33 halftime deficit against the Wildcats. The Bulldogs shot a poor 27.9% from the field and 19% from behind the arc in the first half.

In the second, the Wildcats would continue to give the Bulldogs a fight. It seemed as if the Wildcats would take a homecoming victory, but it would be the final minutes of the game that would determine the outcome. The crowd had counted the Bulldogs out, but it was not over for the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs would regroup and get it together and take the lead right from under the Wildcats with less than 3:00 to play in the contest. The Bulldogs would force the Wildcats into a timeout, but even that would not be enough to fight off the Bulldogs and the Bulldogs would escape with a 69-66 victory and leave the Wildcats winless for homecoming.

Lady Bulldogs Loses Tough One to Texas College

Tyler, TX - The Tougaloo College Lady Bulldogs Basketball team traveled to Tyler, TX to take on the Lady Steers of Texas College. The Lady Bulldogs fought until the end, but it would be the Lady Steers who would take the heart-breaking 82-80 victory over the Lady Bulldogs.

The Lady Bulldogs had a slow start, but they would soon pick up the pace and take an early lead. The Lady Bulldogs struggled, but they would manage to take a 43-35 halftime lead over the Lady Steers. Lady Bulldogs' Victoria Jones dominated the first half, as she had 15 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

In the second half, the Lady Bulldogs would continue to protect their lead, as they would go up as many as 20 points in the game. But the Lady Steers would not back down and they would fight their way back and capitalize on some key turnovers by the Lady Bulldogs and capture the lead with under 1:00 to play. Lady Bulldogs and Lady Steers would both continue to fight, but it would be the Lady Steers that would grab the 82-80 win over the Lady Bulldogs at the line as a foul was called with 0:03 left to play.

Taking over the game was Victoria Jones, who led all scorers and rebounders with 30 points and 23 rebounds. Demara Bolton and Akela White tacked in 17 points apiece and Erica Grayson chipped in 14 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs. Bulldogs Run Over Steers with 78-58 Win

Tyler, TX - The Tougaloo College Bulldogs' Basketball team traveled to Tyler, TX on Friday to take on the Steers of Texas College. The Bulldogs would demolish the Steers and take a 78-58 victory. The Bulldogs would start off slow early in the game, resulting in the Steers taking an early lead, but the lead would not be for long.

The Bulldogs would regroup and come back to gain the lead over the Steers and take control of the game. The Steers would try to make it a game with the Bulldogs, but it would be the Bulldogs who would go to the locker room with a 33-25 halftime lead.

In the second half, the Bulldogs would just take total control of the game and run away from the Steers, outscoring them 45-33 and out rebounding them throughout the game 51-34. The Bulldogs struggled with the shooting, but it would be enough to hold off the Steers and move to 2-0 on the season.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Marquise Mems with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Ananza Richardson tacked in 13 points, Jejuan Jacks chipped in 12 points, and James Carter added 10 points. Tougaloo Bulldogs Grabs Home Opener Over Mobile

Tougaloo, MS - The Tougaloo College Men's Basketball team opened up the home season on last night in the "Dawg Pound" against former GCAC opponent University of Mobile. The Bulldogs grab an impressive 73-54 win over the Rams.

Coming off an 88-83 exhibition victory over Division I Alcorn State University, the Bulldogs started the game very aggressive, running the ball down the court. The Rams tried to keep up, but the Bulldogs was too quick for them and they would take an early lead. The Bulldogs continued to play fastball with the Rams and it landed the Bulldogs a 39-27 halftime lead. The Bulldogs ended the half 40.5% from the field, 25% from the three point, and 50% from the free throw line.

In the second half, the Rams would try to fight back, but the Bulldogs would be too much for the Rams to handle and as a result the Bulldogs would cruise to an impressive 73-54 victory over the Rams. Although the Bulldogs had a hard time at the free throw line and committed allot of turnovers, they still managed to hold off the Rams. The Bulldogs finished the game 43.8% from the field, 23.8% from behind the arc, and a poor 42.9% from the free throw line.

Leading the way for the Bulldogs was Jejuan Jacks with 17 points. Marquise Mems tacked in 11 points and Ananza Richardson added 10 points. The Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Tyler, TX to take on Texas College on Friday at 7:30 P.M. and to Marshall, TX to take on Wiley College on Saturday at 4:00 P.M.
