Mission Statement
The Office of Development acquires private gifts for the College, its students and programs, primarily from foundations, corporations, friends and alumni to ensure that Tougaloo College has the means to carry out its mission and vision effectively. The Office of Development works to increase annual operating revenues via the Annual Fund, the College endowment, student scholarships, and funding for capital projects as part of the comprehensive campaign. The Board of Trustees, the President, and the Vice President for Institutional Advancement, in consultation with other members of the President’s Cabinet and the faculty, determine Tougaloo College’s fund raising priorities.
Goals and Objectives
Goal 1. To ensure that Tougaloo College has the means to carry out its financial mission and vision effectively.
Objective 1.1 The Office of Development will increase operating revenue for the College.
Strategy 1.1.1. Conduct five major fund raising events - Two Rivers Gala, HBCU Conference, UNCF Masquerade Ball, Annual Business Luncheon, Great Churches Project
Strategy 1.1.2 . Increase alumni gifts to the Annual Fund by 15% annually
trategy 1.1.3. Plan, develop and implement an effective and efficient Annual
Giving Program that realizes a 20% increase in unrestricted annual giving by June 30, 2005
Strategy 1.1.4. Identify, cultivate and solicit private gifts and grants from foundations, corporations and individuals
Strategy 1.1.5. Conduct a direct mail campaign designed to acquire new friends/donors in our local community
Strategy 1.1.6. Submit not less than ten foundation/corporation proposals by June 30, 2005
Objective 1.2 The Office of Development will increase the College’s endowed funds
Strategy 1.2.1 Rate and screen top 250 prospective givers
Strategy 1.2.2 Identify and solicit for two to three new chairs or other endowed named initiatives
Strategy 1.2.3 Cultivate and solicit endowment gifts to result in 10% increase
Objective 1.3 The Office of Development will plan and implement a comprehensive campaign
Strategy 1.3.1. Phase one of the silent portion of the comprehensive capital campaign will be completed by Reunion Week of FY 2006-2007
Strategy 1.3.2. Recruit campaign co-chairs (national and local)
Strategy 1.3.3. Solicit $25 million in leadership and pacesetter gifts for the comprehensive campaign by December 31, 2006
Strategy 1.3.4. Meet quarterly with comprehensive campaign counsel, Board Institutional Advancement Committee chairman, College President, and faculty to review progress and update strategic plans for comprehensive and annual campaigns.
Strategy 1.3.5. Increase the percentage of faculty and staff donors by 10% each year
Strategy 1.3.6 Increase percentage of alumni donors to 50% by June 30, 2007.
