International Application Instructions
Applications for admission to Tougaloo College are considered on an individual basis and only after all required documents have been received by the Admission Office. Admission decisions for undergraduate applicants are typically made within 10 business days.
Required Documents for International Applicants
1. A signed application for admission
The application for admission must be an original document (not faxed or emailed), completed and signed. The application should include all required documents listed below to avoid processing delays.
2. Original or certified copies of academic records with the fresh seal or stamp of each institution attended
Applicants must submit official academic records from secondary and post secondary schools attended regardless of degree, certificate, or diploma earned, showing: (a) yearly secondary school records with marks earned by subject; (b) certified results from external examinations; and (c) year-by-year records from each college and/or university.
Certification of official documents should be made by a school official. Any translated record should be an exact translation (not interpretive) and be accompanied by the official (original-language) document. Transcripts from U.S. high schools, colleges, or universities should be sent directly from that institution to the Admission Office.
Transfer credits will be evaluated to determine applicability after admission status is determined. Course syllabi or descriptions should be submitted in order to ensure an accurate evaluation of transfer credit.
3. Certification of English Language Proficiency
A satisfactory score on the TOEFL is required for applicants whose native language is not English. The acceptable TOEFL score for admission is a minimum of 500 paper-based, 173 computer-based. The TOEFL requirement is waived for applicants who have completed a minimum of 24 semester credit hours with a GPA of 2.5 or above on a 4.0 point scale at an accredited U.S. college or university or who are citizens of a native English language country.
4. Declaration and Verification of Financial Support
U.S. Government regulations require all international applicants to produce evidence of their ability to meet all financial obligations while studying in the United States. Applications nor a request for the issuance of an I-20 or DS-2019 will be reviewed until the documents have been received by the Financial Aid Office.
The required documents are:
a. A completed and signed Tougaloo College Financial Support Statement from the person(s) or sponsoring agency providing funds for your tuition and living expenses for the duration of your study at Tougaloo College.
b. An original bank statement or letter (certification) from the sponsor's bank verifying that such funds currently are available for your study at Tougaloo College. The financial evidence must cover at least the amount of Tougaloo College’s estimated expenses for the first year of your study (see the Tougaloo College Financial Support Statement for estimated expenses).
c. A photocopy of the biographic information page from your passport (the page showing one's photo, name, date of birth, etc.)

Transfer Policies for International Students
Students enrolled at undergraduate institutions in the U.S. or abroad may apply for international transfer admission to Tougaloo College.
In addition to all other required application documents (see "Application Instructions" above), transfer applicants must provide original transcripts (in English or with certified translation) from all post-secondary institutions attended.
Following admission, transfer students' transcripts will be evaluated for transferable credit. Transfer students are strongly encouraged to furnish the International Programs with syllabi and course descriptions in support of their requests for transfer credit. Please hand carry these items when you travel to Tougaloo College.
Transferred credits offer a number of advantages: Tougaloo College does not assess tuition for transferred academic credit; transferred credits move students forward in the course registration queue; and transfer credits may shorten time to degree.
Questions pertaining to transfer applications or transfer credit evaluations should be addressed to the Director of the Office of Records.
Application Deadlines
Applicants are encouraged to complete and forward their applications to the Admission Office as early as possible; but at least nine (9) months prior to your desired date of entrance along with all documents as before described and mentioned. This allows for sufficient time to obtain visas and arrange for transportation. Applications received after these deadlines will be processed as promptly as possible, though admission may be deferred to the following semester.
