Service-learning, Community Service, Student Research on Policy Issues to Impact Public Policy, Forums, Films, Workshops and Conferences


The Center for Civic Engagement & Social Responsibility at Tougaloo College is engaged in activities designed to empower citizens so that they become active participants in the life of their communities by providing a forum for the sharing of ideas, expression of diverse views, and the formulation of opinions and actions that serve the common good.

The Center, in seeking to strengthen the ties between the college and the community:

1. Engages students in research on important policy issues in designated classes across the curriculum

2. Conducts student-led forums to share research findings with the Tougaloo community and representatives of public agencies and nonprofit organizations

3. Directs the community service projects required of all Tougaloo College students

4. Works with Tougaloo College faculty in developing service-learning projects

5. Sponsors forums and films

6. Hosts workshops, symposia, and other conferences in collaboration with other organizations
