Tougaloo College Evening Program: FAQ

What is the Evening Program?
The Evening Program is a collection of courses from across the curriculum, targeted to meet the needs of adult students using flexible scheduling. The Program is not a specific degree program but rather a mechanism that allows adult learns to work toward any degree program offered by the College.

How does the Program meet the needs of adult students?
Working adults are typically not available to pursue college degree programs during the daytime, especially if they work a “9 to 5” job. Courses sponsored through the Evening Program are offered using two, new flexible formats. In the first format, course completion may occur in seven (7) weeks, by attending class for three (3) hours each evening on two (2) evenings per week. The second format involves attending class on Saturdays for three hours. Course completion can occur in fourteen (14) weeks. In addition to these flexible formats, Tougaloo College has offered, for several years, some late afternoon classes and Saturday classes for non-traditional (adult) students. All of these courses are included in the Evening Program so that prospective students may see the variety of options available.

What kinds of courses are offered through the Evening Program?
Many of the courses meet the General Education requirements of all degree programs. A few courses in major areas are offered as part of this semester’s initial schedule, most notably in the area of Economics with a Business Administration emphasis and in Sociology/Social Work. As student requests grow, additional courses will be scheduled.

Where will the courses be held?
All courses will be held on the Tougaloo College campus.

What time will the courses be held?
Generally, the evening courses will be held from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m.
The Saturday courses will be held from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon.

What is the benefit of enrolling in the Evening Program?
The Evening Program provides an easily accessible option for prospective students to return to college, “ease into college”, or enter as a transfer student who has completed a large number of credits or an Associate of Arts degree. Pre-enrollment counseling will help prospective students identify educational goals and strategies. Adult students who desire to attend Tougaloo College will have an opportunity to do so, by enrolling in the Evening Program.

What is the cost of attending the Evening Program?
Tougaloo College has a very affordable, private college rate of $367 per credit hour, or $1,101 for a three (3) credit hour course. In addition, there is a $330 fee per semester. Some adults will qualify for the non-traditional student rate. It is significantly lower, at $258 per credit hour, or $774 for a three (3) credit hour course, plus the $330 fee.

Is financial aid available?
The Financial Aid Officer can explain whether a student meets the federal guidelines for receiving financial aid. Completion of the FAFSA (www.fafsa.gov) is the first step in determining if you qualify for financial aid.

How does someone enroll in the Evening Program?
The first step is to get admitted to Tougaloo College. Only Tougaloo College students may enroll in the Evening Program. The Application for Admission form can be downloaded from the website, printed, completed and mailed to the Admissions Office. Upon request, the Admissions Office will send prospective students a packet of information, including detailed instructions for submitting applications. The College cannot complete its review of your application for admission information until it has received official transcripts from all colleges previously attended.

When does registration occur for the Evening Program?
Registration will be held each semester during the non-traditional student registration period. Dates will be publicized on the College website.

How can a prospective student receive more specific information?
