Owens Health and Wellness Center
The Tougaloo College George and Ruth B. Owens Health and Wellness Center (OHWC) is a community resource facility designed to provide primary health care and preventative health services through wellness and nutrition education, and physical fitness programs. People today are conscious of their physical health condition and possess a desire to engage in fitness regiments to improve their lifestyles. Our center provides a variety of exercise programs which target each member’s desired goal. A brief interview with each new member is conducted to determine their desired health and wellness goals.
Delta Health Partners (DHP)
Delta Health Partners, a Healthy Start Project which operates in ten Delta counties. The goal of the project is to reduce infant mortality rates and the attendant problems of teen pregnancy. It is funded by the Health Resources Services Administration of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
The Family & Community Violence Program (FCVP)
The Family & Community Violence Program, through the Family Life Center, seeks to address the escalating problem of youth violence, alcohol and drug abuse. This program operates year round serving 45 at-risk youth (ages 9-15) attending Walton Elementary School, and their families, through After-School Violence Prevention Programs, Saturday Family Bonding Activities and Summer Institute Programs.
The Community Health Awareness Coalition (CHAC)
The Community Health Awareness Coalition funds local volunteer groups, at the community level, to do specific activities to increase health and wellness awareness relating to STD/HIV behavioral interventions. This activity is funded by the STD/HIV Division of the Mississippi State Department of Health.
The Center works with existing health care providers and health organizations to provide programs of prevention, fitness, health education and wellness to the residents of our targeted community of 26 of the State’s central and delta counties.
