Community Service

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I begin?
If you have not selected a site, go to the community partners page and review the organizations on the list and select a site. Contact the agency representative to address any questions or issues you may have. After selecting a site, download the agency placement form. Complete the form and take it to the office of CSSL to obtain approval to begin work.

Can I perform service at an organization not on the list of community partners?
Certainly. However, the organization must be a community based non-profit organization that is willing to sign the letter of understanding.

Can I earn credit for community service hours I perform on campus?
Yes, however, every community service activity you participate in may not be the appropriate type of service sufficient to meet graduation requirements. In order to be applied towards your graduation requirements, the service must be approved by the office of CSSL. The office of CSSL will determine whether or not the activity is appropriate to meet graduation requirements.

Can I get credit for past service?

Only if you can provide documentation from the time the service was performed. You cannot create the documentation at a later date and receive credit towards your graduation requirements.

Can Freshmen earn community service credit?

Yes, but only if it is an activity managed by the CARD program.

How do I find out about volunteer opportunities?
Check the website, contract the agencies or come by the office.

How many community service hours have I completed towards graduation?
Contact the office by calling 601-977-4436.

Can anyone other than the Office of CSSL provide me assurance that my community service will be credited towards graduation?
No, only the Office of CSSL is authorized to determine what community service activity may be credited towards your graduation requirements. Any and all community service you perform may not be credited towards graduation. Therefore, you should contact the Office of CSSL to determine whether or not the service you provide will qualify towards your graduation requirements.
